YOUR INSTAGRAM BIO SAYS YOU’RE A TAROT READER IN TRAINING – WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR AMI CARMINE AND SUPERDRY?
Haha, yes I am! And without even looking at the cards, I can say the future is definitely fun filled. If I had one tarot card to describe the future it would be the 10 of Cups!
YOU ALSO CLAIM TO BE A MERMAID PUNK – SUM THIS STYLE AND LIFESTYLE UP?
Well to me it's all about having a good balance of feminine and masculine edge, softness mixed with rebellion. I'm a Pisces/Aries starsign so I'm Water & Fire - so to me Mermaid Punk is about having a good balance of both & channeling that duality both emotionally and creatively.
YOU’VE SUNG WITH BASEMENT JAXX. WHAT DID YOU LEARN ON THE ROAD WITH THEM?
Yes I did! It was insane. It was my first ever big tour, and my second show was at Roskilde Festival in Denmark, which was huge.
I definitely learned that sleep is very important when you're on the road and traveling. It's actually quite tiring traveling so much. I also learned how to master being able to perform in a PVC catsuit and 6 inch heels. I'm sure you can imagine the fear of falling over in something like that!
WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE DECKS WHEN YOU DJ?
I always bring the big tunes. I'm quite an eclectic DJ, and I like to read my crowd so I've always got some extra ammo to take the set somewhere else if I need to. You can hear me playing everything from House & Dance, to Bass, Breakbeat, Trap, D&B and more commercial mixes depending on the show.. but I can assure you I'll always bring the goods!
FESTIVAL DOS AND DON'TS?
Do - DEFINITELY take your own toilet paper. That stuff becomes like gold dust in the early hours. I remember when I played Glastonbury and there was NONE, even in the artist area. It was like a wild goose chase for loo roll...
Don't - forget to take a few portable phone chargers, especially if you're staying for a few days. There's nothing worse than losing your friends and missing your favourite act trying to find them!
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT YOUR INVOLVEMENT WITH SUPERDRYSOUNDS?
I'm really excited to be involved with a clothing brand that is actively supporting music and musicians. It's rare for the two to come together in such a way, and I think it's a great way to bring fashion and music together. You can expect new music releases and collaborations from me this year, plus DJ sets across the globe - including touring the UK as DJ for Peep Shows 'Super Hans' Big Beat Manifesto. Lots of exciting things in the works!
DESCRIBE SUPERDRY IN THREE WORDS.
Fresh and future forward.
