A festival set in the heart of New York - the Governors Ball embraces everything ‘Big Apple’ featuring contemporary music, plenty of activities to check out and art instalments to experience. Rub shoulders with the urban scene and extend your stay to check out the city after - to keep the party going.
This year expect to see some of the biggest names in music on the main stage:
New York is pretty safe when it comes to warmer weather in the summer months. Expect temperatures in the early-twenties for most of the event and plenty of sunshine - can't go wrong.
There’s no camping but plenty of hotels to head back to once the night is finally over - and check out the bars along the way. Here are some options:
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to food with some of New York’s finest heading up the scene. Here are a few options that you might spot at this year’s event:
You’ll also find free water refill stations around the site - gotta stay hydrated.
The Governors Ball isn't just about the music - there are loads of other things to do during the event. Check out your options here and plan in some of these activities during your visit.
2017 saw bars such as the Miller Lite Bar, Casa Bacardi and Tito’s Stillhouse Lodge serving up alcoholic drinks all day long - so expect to find more at this year’s event.
The Governors Ball teams up with well known brands to offer exclusive experiences over the three days. Last year Got2B offered braided hairstyles, FoxTales brought along photobooths to play around in and The Infatuation put together an exclusive food lineup to try out.
Great for making friends or hanging out with old ones, you can take a break from the crowds and play some giant jenga or life-size Connect Four.
If you’re flying into New York, book a flight to La Guardia airport - it’s the closest one. If not, JFK is a 30 minute car journey away from the festival.
Take the 4, 5 or 6 train to 125th Street then jump on the X80 express bus which takes you directly to the festival entrance. It costs $6.50 to use the express bus, but be sure to use a Metrocard with cash on it or have the exact change.
You can jump on a festival ferry every 15 minutes until 9pm, at the East 35th Street Ferry Landing. You’ll need to buy tickets beforehand though.
There is no parking at the festival, so if you want to travel by car find a parking space at your hotel and grab a taxi from there or use public transport.
Gov Ball is your traditional festival scene - but with a New York twist. Wondering what to pack? Here are some ideas.
The perfect smart/casual piece, wear a maxi dress day or night at this year's Gov Ball. Choose a stripe print for a look that works with everything.
Choose a smart style or pick up something with plenty of spandex - a jumpsuit works for everyone. Good luck in the communal loos though.
New York's pretty warm in the summer, so stay cool in shorts. Chino style shorts work with a polo shirt and trainers for an easy festival look for both day and night.
Wondering what else to pack? Check out our festival packing guide on the Superdry site. Can't get to NY? We've also got a post on festivals you can still get tickets for.
