The Superdry Spring Jacket Guide

19th March 2018

We’re way into 2018 – so it’s time to ditch the oversized jumpers and blanket scarf and get into this season.

There are a fair few seasonal trends you can jump on right now – when it comes to spring jackets in 2018 – guy or girl.

Spring Men’s jackets 2018

Here’s what’s on the agenda –

1. Shearling – Stay warm and make a statement

Oversized and shearling is a must this year – carrying on from our current obsession with all things borg or sherpa when it comes to hoodies and jacket linings. The men’s catwalks in particular at LFW showcased some strong shearling jackets. It’s real easy to pick up this trend right now – before we even think about the leaves turning again.

What to look for

  • Oversized – Bigger is better when it comes to this material. Look for an oversized style or buy a size up to achieve it.
  • Natural colour – Leave the bright colours for your other outerwear and choose neutral shades – such as white or black – when picking out a shearling jacket.
  • Details – If you don’t fancy all over shearling, look for details such as hood linings or cuffs featuring the material.

2. Trench coats – THE jacket for 2018

You don’t need to be an old school detective or Hollywood movie star to rock a trench coat. These bad boys are back this year, which means it’s time to dust off the one hanging in your wardrobe or pick one up.

Look for longer length mac and trench coat looks – with strong collars, heavy buttons and nipped in waists for both men and women.

What to look for

  • Belt – Opt for a jacket featuring a strong buckle to add some structure, it’s great for creating a waist and showing off shoulders.
  • Colour – Tan, khaki or black are trending this season so you’ll find these on rails now and for the coming season.
  • Collar – There’s nothing cooler than turning up the collar on mac and embracing that oversized, old school vibe. Look for structured collars with sharp edges.

3. Cagoules – Beat the rain and look good

Who’d have thought rainwear would dominate the jacket trends for 2018? Mainly seen at the male fashion shows, the catwalks featured a lot of waterproof outerwear including cagoules and ponchos and we’re totally here for it.

Dress them up like a 90s England footie fan – thrown over matching tracksuits with a beanie or baseball cap and high trainers in black. Ideal for Sundays in the pub with mates.

What to look for

  • Oversized – Raincoats were seen in larger than life sizes, with billowing sleeves and enormous hoods. Make an impact and look for a jacket featuring these elements.
  • Bold print – Strong graphics and animal print was popular on the catwalks but colour blocking can create this effect just as well.
  • Large collars – Practical and on trend, cagoules featuring large collars you can pull up is a look you need to try out now and in autumn.

Spring jackets 2018 women’s

1. Denim – Easy to wear, always looks good

Are denim jackets in style in 2018? Yes – definitely.

Denim is like your best mate – always there for you. Spring/Summer 2018 catwalks featured top to toe denim looks – so go on, try it out.

Go bold and pair some dungarees with a matching denim shirt or jacket. Finish with some white kicks for the perfect look to hit the streets on a Saturday.

What to look for

  • Strong stitching – Many of the designers at fashion week featured bold stitching detail on their denim designs, so look for this when picking up a new denim jacket for spring.
  • Darker shades – Indigo and darker blue denim won the show for spring 2018 jackets. Don’t be afraid to double up with acid wash and bleached denim this season.
  • Embroidered – Embroidery was still a thing on the catwalks, so if you’re looking for something a little extra opt for a denim jacket featuring patches, badges or embroidered details.

2. Sharp shoulders – Let your spring jacket do the hard work

Expect to see strong shoulders and sleeves on clothes rails in 2018.

Structure is key – your jacket should hold its shape and draw the eyes to the shoulder. Time to up the amount of back and shoulder days you’ve got planned in the gym.

What to look for

  • Structure – Look for a jacket that features plenty of structure across the chest and shoulders.
  • Detail – If you don’t fancy structure, look for detail on the shoulders instead, such as applique badges or loop and button fastenings.
  • Material – Thicker materials are best when trying to tap into the sharp shoulders trend – it holds shape better than a lighter jacket. Let’s be honest, you’ll probs still need a thicker material – even in spring.

The jacket you need

Rookie Classic Military Jacket – Structured shoulders and fastening detail make this a jacket that plays into this trend and looks good with everything.

3. Military jackets – Pretty in punk

Ditch your main jacket when the warm weather rolls around and swap it out for a thicker, structured shirt style – better known as the ‘shacket’. Plaid, for example, featured heavily on the SS18 catwalk shows and should be pretty easy to add to your wardrobe – if it’s not there already.

Think about what rocker Courtney Love or rebel Winona Ryder would wear in the 90s. Then when it comes to your jacket, look for military cuts – like our Rookie range – in khaki shades. Throw this over ripped denim and pops of pink and embrace the work style boots.

What to look for

  • Colour – Khaki, black and red should be the main theme when it comes to colour.
  • Lightweight – Swap your usual jacket out for a slimmer military jacket when the warmer weather arrives. Layers will keep you warm in a cold snap.
  • Oversized – Choose a slightly larger size so you can wear it over a thin jumper or t-shirt and finish with ripped denim. Fishnet tights under ripped denim add that rocky edge to any look.

Rookie Classic Military Jacket – The thicker material and structured style looks great with those ripped jeans or slung over a slip dress and with ankle boots. We love the gold button and epaulette details.

Camo print – Be seen

Camo print is a must for guys and girls – when it comes to spring jacket trends in 2018. Like denim, it’s a look that isn’t going anywhere. Embrace the military vibe and look for a bomber jacket or parka, featuring this print.

Greens and browns are staple colours for the camo trend but you could try out blacks and greys or even blues for a stronger vibe. Pair with more camo print – like cargo pants or a mini skirt or wear it over an evening ensemble. Think, shirt and tie for the guys and flared trousers, a halter neck top and heels for the ladies – to turn heads when you turn up.

Girls – Our Rookie Festival Parka Jacket is a must have. Pair with a metallic skirt, slogan tee and chunky boots featuring bold socks peeking over the top. Finish off with a beanie and leave hair loose.

Guys – The Rookie Deck Jacket is the perfect spring throw on. It’s military cut and strong camo print wouldn’t look out of place on an assault course but it’s ideal for working with a plain white tee, rolled up jeans and sliders – in camo print, of course – for warm days in spring.
