Men’s jacket trends – Spring/Summer 17

27th May 2017

SS17’s men’s jacket trends are loud and proud, pushing the norm but still ensuring you always look good – whether you’re waiting for the bus to work (yawn) or pre partying in the airport lounge (yes).

If you’re wondering which style you should be wearing this spring/summer we’ve done all the leg work for you when it comes to jacket trends and what you need to add to that shopping basket, stat.

Main

Hike it

The idyllic setting of the ‘great outdoors’ is apparently all the rage at the moment, as we continue to see waterproof materials being adopted for fashion forward styles that wouldn’t look out of place on a hike. While it’s not quite time to pull out the walking boots and oversized rucksack when pulling an everyday outfit together, these pieces are ideal for festival looks.

Which jacket? Cagoules have had a revamp this season and are considered to be the perfect lightweight jacket to complement this trend. One of these should see you through downpours at summer festivals or when your mates decide to leave you to sort the BBQ out in a summer shower.

Our Dual Zip Through Cagoule should tick all the boxes.

Old school garage

Rough and ready is the aim of the game, as bombers take inspiration from the everyday ‘working man’ – think mechanic overalls and designs borrowed from 80s Mods. It’s a trend we’re seeing more of in 2017 – with paperboy hats that look like they’re straight off the set of Peaky Blinders and men’s jacket styles that Tom Hardy wouldn’t turn his nose up at.

Which jacket? Look for elasticated sleeves, a slightly oversized fit and any colour other than black; a traditional bomber style will do but one with a collar you can turn up is ideal for nailing that nonchalant but extra masculine vibe.

One of our Harrington Jackets is a top choice, check out our Nordic design.

Statement styles

SS17 is seeing more and more statement pieces being introduced with leopard print and pink not uncommon choices for those adventurous types. If you fancy stretching out of your comfort zone, you need a jacket that lets everyone know when you’ve entered the room.

Which jacket? If you want to slowly embrace this look – we get it, not all of us are ready to embrace animal print – start small with a longline bomber. It’s a twist on the popular aviator style bomber jacket and will definitely get you noticed at every event you end up at this summer.

The Nordic Longline Bomber Jacket is spot on for this trend.

Sports retro

Athleisurewear is still a ‘thing’ – as the ladies continue to wear yoga leggings for the weekend food shop and fashion trainers for everything in between – and, why not? Sportswear is dead comfy. To nail this SS17 trend, you want something that looks like you’re just about to head down to the park for a game of footy with your mates – while dressing it up with jeans and some fresh white trainers.

Which jacket? More men’s jacket styles are embracing that classic sports jacket theme, with zip up collars, primary colours and plenty of mesh inserts. You don’t have to go scouring for vintage brands though, updated designs are available with that same retro vibe…

…like our Sports Active Core Cagoule.

Distressed denim

Vintage style is having a moment this spring/summer, and denim is one of the easiest ways to adopt this look. Light wash denim is particularly in vogue at the moment, as well as distressed jeans that your Gran would probably tut in disapproval at.

Which jacket? An oversized denim jacket gives a nod to the 90s, think Kurt Cobain and the grunge scene, while a fitted design will go with literally everything. Even your short shorts when you run out of clothes at that summer festival.

Our men’s Biker Jacket is available in a light washed grey and steps the denim trend up a notch.
