School is officially out! Whether you’re considering a trip with your mates or a family holiday somewhere exotic, our #Superdrysummer getaway guide has everything you need to know. Fast becoming the place for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture and a lively nightlife scene, Dubai makes for a luxurious holiday destination.
Five reasons you’ll love Dubai
1. The sun always shines
In the summer, practically every day is sunny. In the winter, rainfall is usually modest and most days are sunny. August is the hottest month with an average temperature of 36°C (96°F). If you can take the heat, August is the best month to swim in the sea and for the best price travel deals.
2. There are no bad hotels
The benefits of building a world-class tourism destination in 15 years means that there aren’t many bad hotels in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. In fact, most of them are 4 or 5-star. Make sure you visit Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest hotel and building. Check out the exhibit on the building’s history then take the fastest lift in the world to the top. Hold on to your hat – it only takes a few seconds.
3. Transport is cheap
Thanks to inexpensive gasoline, taxis within the city won’t cost you more than $5 or $10. The cheapest option to get across town would be the fully automated Dubai Metro. It allows you to walk straight into major tourist attractions like the Mall of the Emirates (hosting Ski Dubai) or the Dubai Mall (which is where you enter the Burj Khalifa)
4. There’s so much to do!
Where do we start! The world’s tallest building, indoor skiing, luxurious bars and restaurants, aquariums, water parks, hot air balloon rides, museums, desert adventure safaris, sand boarding, F1 racetrack, drinks on top of the world’s only 7-star hotel – it’s safe to say that you will never be bored in Dubai.
5. The Shopping rocks!
Dubai is known as the shopping capital of the Middle East, and the best bargains are generally in the souks. Even luxury items such as carpets, electronics, gold and textiles can be bought relatively cheaply if you know where to look. The age-old souks, ultra-modern shopping malls and the promise of tax-free prices redefine the whole concept of retail therapy. Also, for all your holiday essentials, pop by the Superdry Store located in the Dubai Emirates Mall.
Although Dubai is an amazing place to visit, there are some important rules that must be obeyed.
Revealing clothes are unlawful to an extent. When in public, always ensure your skirts or shorts reach at least just above the knee and ensure your shoulders are covered. In private resorts, hotels, and shopping centres and out in the desert you can relax – swimwear is also acceptable at the pool area. To be safe, always dress conservatively. Men must always wear a top unless they are on the beach/at the pool.
Public signs of affection
Believe it or not, kissing in public is not allowed and can warrant jail time. Not just kissing, also holding hands and cuddling is considered unlawful in public.
Visitors can only drink alcohol in licensed hotels or clubs, and drinking alcohol or being drunk in public is an offence. Playing loud music in public areas is also considered unlawful. So, if you’re after a late night party holiday with your mates, maybe Magaluf is a better option…
