Superdry Summer Destinations Barcelona

Barcelona is a captivating seaside city with boundless culture, fabled architecture, and not to mention a world-class drinking and dining scene! Our guest writer Emily Steer gives us the lowdown on the best places to visit while holidaying in the city…

So, you’ve booked your flights and you’re off to Barcelona! Firstly, it would just be criminal to visit the city and not explore its cultural hotspots stemming from the city’s 2000 years of history. It’s nearly impossible to miss Barcelona’s unique architecture, which is made up of a stunning combination of modernity and traditional Catalonian infrastructure. The best place to check out these striking man-made scenes would be Antoni Gaudi’s Park Guell, a stylish park composed of massive stone structures and mosaics inspired by the uneven natural landscapes of Barcelona. It has now been declared a World Heritage Site celebrating the works of some of the world’s most groundbreaking modern architects.

Just a few miles away from Park Guell is the slightly less visually intense, but still spectacular, town Horta Guinardo. This is Barcelona’s third largest district, which is slightly more rural. Unspoiled by swanky nightspots and expansive retail parks, it is an unpretentious hilltop neighbourhood allowing tourists to explore open green spaces and check out what it’s like to live in this stunning city.

From all the walking around town, you’ll probably start to get a bit tired and need a glass of sangria and some paella. There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from, offering an extensive range of tapas all to be enjoyed while looking over the Mediterranean seafront. Loosen your belt and get ready to gorge yourself on croquetas, patatas bravas, and tortillas and, of course, some delicious churros to finish off.

Superdry Summer Destinations Barcelona

If you’re not too stuffed after all that, there’s plenty more of Barcelona to enjoy. Get some practical shoes on, like a pair of Superdry Low Pros, and venture to Barcelona’s biggest festival, La Merce. The festival lasts four days in the middle of September and celebrates some of the city’s oldest and coolest traditions. There’ll be fire runs, parades, acrobatics, projection shows, music, street performers and, of course, a bit more traditional Spanish food! Lads – this super stylish summer look will keep you cool while soaking up the festival vibes, while ladies, these cute denim shorts and soft feel, loose fit blouse will take you from day to night.

Busy and bustling by day, Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter is heaving by night. There’s plenty more Catalonian culture to soak up if you head out to some nightclubs and bars. One of Barcelona’s oldest and most popular is Los Tarantos, famous for its nightly Flamenco performances and full-service bar where you can sit back with a glass of Vermouth and enjoy the show! Close by, cocktail bar The Milk Bar has infinite Spanish cocktails to choose from! But if you’re all full up of Spanish culture, Barcelona offers a traditional Irish pub experience, Paddy Flaherty’s bar, incredibly popular with tourists. Here you can watch any sport you want, drink any beer and enjoy games of beer pong all night long.

Superdry Summer Destinations Barcelona

Obviously, there are some slightly less hardcore nights going on elsewhere. El Born gives a more sophisticated slice of Barcelona’s nightlife. Here you can trawl the narrow backstreets and check out trendy cafes and quieter bars, such as Cat Bar adorned, with some interesting modern art. If you’re feeling peckish, this is one of Barcelona’s only bars to serve all vegan food to relieve your stomach from all the rich chorizo you’ll have been stuffing yourself with!

Now that you’re in the know of all the best places to go, all that’s left to do is have an amazing time!

Fancy a new outfit while in Barcelona? Then check our stores around the city.

Festival fans rejoice! August is set to be a scorcher so if you’re off to Wilderness Festival this week, you can be sure it won’t be a wash out (well as sure as you can be of British weather).

Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire, is currently being transformed into an ethereal wonderland set to host an eclectic mix of music, arts & crafts and food. After bagging the ‘Best Festival Activity’ award in 2013, Wilderness keeps getting bigger and better.
Rocking the main stage this year is R&B-funk power house George Clinton, Devonshire singer-songwriter Ben Howard and Queen of modern music, Bjork – so you’re in for a big treat!

We’ll also definitely be checking out the Hidden Valley for late night fun, Raymond Blanc’s banquet and have a dip in the lake to cool down after lots of dancing.

Now, what to wear? With more of a relaxed festival atmosphere like Glastonbury, we’ve put together two outfits that not only look awesome but also feel great.

We all love short shorts, so we’ve teamed our contrast lace hot pants with our star burst embellished vest – perfect for that subtle yet striking glitzy look you’ve been seeing in the magazines. Finish off with a fringed cape and silver sequin slip-ons and you’ll never need to pause for a rest.

For the lads, we’ve rolled comfort and style into one with our classic crew neck photo-print t-shirt and palm design cargo shorts. Chill out beside the lake or get stomping with our retro sport low top trainers. You can even check out the shops and stalls if you team your look with our popping blue backpack.

We would love to see and hear about your Wilderness fun so share your #FestivalStyle with us on Twitter @Superdry or Instagram @SuperdryGlobal and we might just give you a shout out.

With Glastonbury a distant memory *shed tear*, music fans are now looking ahead to the next big festival in a few days, Latitude.

Held in Henham Park, Suffolk this alternative festival draws crowds of eclectic music fanatics every year. This year we can’t wait for full access to the Latitude Lake for the first time. From Thursday to Sunday you’ll be able to don a bikini or swim shorts and cool down until 8pm, so don’t forget to pack your swimsuits!

Now, in all fairness, this year’s line up is a mega one featuring the UK’s hottest artists right now. We’re super excited about this year’s performances especially Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds on Sunday. The Vaccines will no doubt steal the BBC Radio 6 Music Stage as they tease us with their upcoming third album.

Alongside the music madness there’s also a chance to see some of our favourite comedians live. From Jason Manford and Jon Richardson to Alan Davies and the stars of Channel 4’s, The Last Leg – we know we’ll be left in stiches

Now, over to Latitude fashion – what to wear!

Dungarees are on trend right now and bring together that perfect mix of utility and chic. We’ve of course added a Superdry twist to our dungarees, recreating this classic in a floral dress. Team with our high tops and a bright coloured shoulder bag to make sure you’re festival ready.

Prints are all we’re seeing on festival snaps this year, stand out with our take on this festival favourite rediscovered with a Fluro Finish. Coupled with our brand new foldable sunglasses – saves you from easy breaks – and our pop coloured watches, you’ll be a masterclass of Festival Style

We would love to see and hear about your Latitude antics so share your #FestivalStyle with us on Twitter @Superdry or Instagram @SuperdryGlobal and we’ll repost the favourites

Being a festival first-timer can be daunting, this summer Sarah Barlow (Look Magazines Fashion Assitant) took her boyfriend to his first Glastonbury. Taking on the challenges she takes us through her festival essentials!

“Another summer, another Glastonbury. Whilst my boyfriend Christopher was – before last week – a Glasto-virgin, after 7 visits to Worthy Farm I think of myself as somewhat of a veteran. However it was I that learnt a few essential Glastonbury lessons this year:

1. If you’re going to plaster yourself in glittery temporary tattoos make sure you don’t leave them on for five days running or you will end up with a body full of bizarrely shaped sun tan lines come Monday.

2. No matter where you’ve camped, the walk back from Shangri-La at 5am will always seem like a million miles away. Take a pit-stop for a portion of churros en-route to make the trek that little more bearable.

3. Whether you rise at 7 or 11, there will always be a queue for the Breakfast club food van. So just take your time (and another hour or two in bed!)

4. Don’t forget to check social media to find out who the TBA/ secret guest appearances are: We discovered last minute through Twitter that The Libertines we’re taking Florence’s original scheduled spot, and they ended up being one of our favourite performances of the week.

5. Whatever the weather forecast always bring two different types of festival footwear. Thankfully, the sun made another appearance on Sunday afternoon so off came our wellies and on came our Superdry sneakers again. Phew!

6. Hula-hooping in the healing fields is and will always be the best hangover cure, ever!

Now all that’s left to learn is how to beat the post-Glastonbury blues; My body aches, my mind aches, but the biggest ache of all is the realisation it’s all over… until next year anyway!”

Sarah wears;

Fjord tassle cardigan, £94.99 and summer seeker dress, £44.99

Christopher wears;

Concert roll t-shirt £24.99, Trophy low top trainers £39.99 and True Montana rucksack, £34.99

Coming into June there’s only one thing that’s on any music fanatics mind and that’s festivals.

With festival season good vibes, great music and amazing memories are sure to follow and if there is any festival that is guaranteed to make a few weak at the knees, it’s Glastonbury. The sheer size of this festival is the envy of most; you can simply walk aimlessly from stage to stage and have some of the most memorable moments of your life. It could be discovering a new act or simply stopping to chat to a stranger dressed as a horse.

Lets start with the line up for this weekend – it’s off the scale. The amount of choice and variety is unbelievable, prepare yourself for a whole lot of negotiating with your mates on which DJ is a must see, there’s going to be a serious amount of lineup clashes this year!

Glastonbury has picked an incredibly diverse range of live performances for their three day extravaganza! Kicking of the Jungle vibes is the English born DJ Shy FX who will be making everyone shake their body. Then moving over to the power vocals that is Florence and the Machine who’ll be taking to the Pyramid stage on Friday night. If Florence isn’t your thing, you can move over for a crazy night with Enter Shikari who will be screaming down the John Peel stage this year. Then it’s all about Saturday night with Idris Elba taking to the decks on the Sonar Stage and, if you hadn’t heard already, we’ve been graced by the presence of the one and only Kanye West who is headlining the Pyramid Stage!

So with a line up like that there is only one thing to think about, what to wear? Well, don’t panic, we’ve got it covered.

You need to wear something that’ll stand up to the test of all that mud and the changing weather that Glastonbury is renowned for. Team one of our classic parka’s with a pair of our new sneakers, a concealed wedge will give you the much needed height as the crowds draw in.

While for men opt for a tie dye tee over a pair of distressed jeans for the ultimate summer look. And make sure you never miss a set with one of our pop coloured watches.

This weekend we want to see how you’re styling Superdry at Glastonbury, share your look using #FestivalStyle and tag us using @Superdry on Twitter or @SuperdryGlobal on Instagram, we’ll share the best!
